Workshop Description:

The workshop will provide education and discussion about the benefits and challenges in establishing and maintaining a therapeutic mental health relationship through telehealth.

About the speakers:

Patricia Calabrese, PMHNP-BC

Patricia Calabrese is a graduate of Adelphi University School of Nursing, Garden City, in New York. Ms. Calabrese received her Master of Science in Nursing from The University of Maryland and completed her post graduate studies at The University of Southern Mississippi. She is a licensed Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in the state of Mississippi. Ms. Calabrese has also been accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an Advanced Practice Nurse in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since 1986 and as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner since 2004. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau. Prior to coming to Pine Grove, Ms. Calabrese coordinated both neonatal ICU and Child Psychiatric Units, in addition to work in Psychiatric/Medical consultation. Ms. Calabrese joined the Pine Grove Staff in 1992 as Director of Adult and Child & Adolescent Services, coordinating patient treatment delivery, staff management, new program development, marketing, and physician relations. She coordinated Pine Grove’s staff education from 1997-2003. Ms. Calabrese currently treats child and adolescent patients at Pine Grove Outpatient Services doing assessments, medication management and therapy. She is often published in the areas of ADHD, bullying and parenting education. In March 2020, Ms. Calabrese developed a total telehealth practice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Calabrese maintained a telehealth practice for children and their families for over a year, and continues to offer telehealth services since returning to clinic practice.

Vanessa Cox, MSW, LCSW, CMAT

Vanesa Cox is a Licensed Certified Social Worker and Social Work Supervisor. She received her Bachelor of Social Work and her Master of Social Work Degrees from The University of Southern Mississippi and is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and as a Certified Multiple Addiction Therapist (CMAT). Cox presently provides EMDR therapy to Pine Grove’s Specialty Treatment Program patients and has been a part of the Pine Grove team since October of 2005. She has also worked as the Clinical Director for Pine Grove’s Women Center, Next Step, and Legacy programs. Cox worked in the fields of addiction and mental health for sixteen years as House Manager, Counselor Associate, Counselor, and Clinical Director prior to joining Pine Grove. Cox is the Coordinator of the Employee Assistance Program, supervising outpatient therapy services for the employees of Forrest Health and several other businesses and organizations. In the spring of 2020, Cox converted her entire therapy practice from in-person clinic to telehealth due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For over a year Cox maintained a telehealth practice and continues to offer telehealth services since returning to clinic practice.

Target Audience:

The target audience will consist of professional clinicians in the mental health and addiction fields including psychologists, counselors, social workers, and therapists. Information will be presented at an intermediate level.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will discuss the advantages to mental health telehealth sessions.
  2. Participants will discuss environmental and interpersonal problems to establishing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship during a exclusively telehealth relationship.
  3. Participants will name three types of patients that benefit in telehealth therapy.

Continuing Education:

PENDING Psychology (1.5 CE Hours): Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

Mississippi Social Work (1.5 CE Hours): (Provider DP #SWB12013) Pine Grove is approved as a provider for continuing education by the MBOE & MFT (08/24/20 through 08/24/22). Social workers will receive 1.5 CE hours in participating in this course (Clinical 1.5).

NBCC (1.5 CE Hours): Pine Grove has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6392. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified, Pine Grove is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

PENDING Nursing (1.5 Contact Hours): Forrest General is approved as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by The Mississippi Nurses Foundation, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
