FORREST GENERAL HOSPITAL – TREE ROOMS

HATTIESBURG, MS

Workshop Description:

The mental health field has long been riddled with controversies, disagreements and inconsistencies regarding the conceptualization and treatment of clients who present with problematic sexual behaviors. While many factors may have contributed to these issues (e.g., stigma, discomfort, misunderstandings), this has led to significant challenges both for clinicians working in this area and clients seeking assistance for such problems. The more recent inclusion of a formal diagnosis (i.e., Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder) in the ICD-11 had opened to door to further diagnostic, research, and treatment-related possibilities for these issues. The current presentation aims to provide an overview of major topics and considerations related to describing this phenomenon, accurate assessment for the presence of a compulsive sexual behavior problem (including differential diagnosis and diversity factors) and implications for treatment. Lunch will be provided.
