Detoxification

Detoxification

Before the emotional work of recovery can begin, individuals must free their bodies of drugs and alcohol. During inpatient detoxification, patients will receive 24/7 access to clinical care, as well as medications that ease the experience of detox.

Who Needs Detox?

When someone has developed a chemical dependency on drugs or alcohol, the chemistry of their brain has been altered. This changes substance use from a conscious choice to an overwhelming need. In order to successfully cease the use of alcohol or drugs, it is first necessary to remove all traces of these substances from one’s system.

In some instances, withdrawal symptoms from abrupt cessation of substance use can create life-threatening complications. This is when individuals should receive inpatient detox services, overseen 24/7 by a team of qualified physicians.

Drugs that may require medically supervised detox include:

  • Alcohol
  • Benzodiazepines (Valium, Xanax, Ativan)
  • Opioids (oxycodone, hydrocodone, heroin)
  • Stimulants (cocaine, methamphetamine, Adderall)

Inpatient Detox Services

Detox is the first step towards recovery. Goals include pinpoint client assessment, stabilization, treatment planning, and the creation of next steps for each client.

Accurate client assessment is critical to success in detoxification. When they arrive, clients work directly with Pine Grove’s team of experts to discuss treatment options and substance use history. Medical evaluation informs whether individuals need clinical detox.

Once someone has been admitted to a detox program, they will be stabilized. Because withdrawal symptoms can be uncomfortable or even life-threatening for those who have a dependency on alcohol or benzodiazepines, it is vital for a medical team to oversee each person’s treatment. They prescribe medications to ease symptoms and provide 24/7 monitoring of each client’s condition.

While individuals remove all traces of drugs and alcohol from their bodies, it is also vital for them to create a treatment plan. Detox alone isn’t enough to ensure complete recovery from addiction – significant changes to an individual’s mindset and lifestyle are also necessary. Clinical staff members will work with each client to create a treatment plan. Because Pine Grove offers the complete continuum of care, each step is able to be accomplished through our campus.
