Fact: Addiction affects more than just the patients. The families of patients are heavily impacted by the disease and this often results in feelings of anger, hurt, disappointment and loss. The family program gives family members an opportunity to participate in their loved one’s treatment program, allowing them to learn more about addiction and gain support for themselves during this stressful time. The five day workshop is an essential component of the patient’s treatment plan at Pine Grove. During this workshop, families are educated about addiction through informative lectures. Family members meet in a large group and are able to connect and share experiences with other group members. A unique aspect of the family program is the opportunity for the family members to meet with the patient’s primary therapist to focus specifically on aftercare. This allows family members to be actively involved in the recovery process, have their questions answered and be more educated about what to expect when the patient leaves the treatment program. As a result, family members leave the family program feeling more informed and empowered.
