Debbie Sanford, Forrest General Hospital’s Chief Officer of Behavioral Health & Addiction Services said, “We are excited about our inaugural Care Walk and believe this event provides an important community service, enables the public an opportunity to experience Pine Grove’s beautiful campus and learn more about the mental health care we provide for children, adolescents and adults from the Pine Belt and across the country.”

All proceeds from the registration fee benefit Pine Grove Giving Back, a charitable initiative dedicated to supporting the campuses’ Spiritual Grounds. Pine Grove plans to further develop their Spiritual Grounds with the addition of a meditative labyrinth, chapel and other features designed to improve the mental health and advance the recovery of Pine Grove’s patients, alumni and their family members. September 8, 2015

Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services is proud to be the first treatment center in the country to offer our patients Debra Jay’s Structured Family Recovery™ initiative. Structured Family Recovery™ empowers family members to have a positive impact on loved ones, who are recovering from their addictions. Due to this focus on the importance of recovery it is fitting that Pine Grove is launching Structured Family Recovery™ in conjunction with September’s National Recovery Month, which is held annually to increase public awareness about the power of recovery.

Structured Family Recovery™ is a specialized program that outlines how family members impact a patient’s recovery after treatment. Developed by noted author and Pine Grove Consultant, Debra Jay, Structured Family Recovery™ creates a defined family support system to provide empathy and accountability while a patient completes a residential treatment program at Pine Grove. Jay said, “In early recovery, a time when a united front is crucial, families can make the difference between success and failure.”

The residential treatment programs offering Structured Family Recovery™ include Pine Grove’s Next Step program for men and the Women’s Center. These programs provide hope and healing to patients, who are battling substance abuse addictions. Structured Family Recovery™ is also offered to family members and patients with Pine Grove’s Professional Enhancement Program, known as PEP, which treats professionals with inter-personal difficulties. Pine Grove’s Family and Alumni Programs are also educating family members about Structured Family Recovery™ and how they may participate in the program.

As one of the nation’s most comprehensive treatment campuses, Pine Grove is known for providing its patients with innovative addiction treatment. Structured Family Recovery™ is an extension of Pine Grove’s commitment to help patients and their families harness the joys of recovery. Debbie Sanford, RN, MS, MBA, Forrest General Hospital’s Chief Officer of Behavioral Health & Addiction Services said, “Pine Grove has long recognized a patient’s entire family is impacted by addiction and Structured Family Recovery™ is an important enhancement to Pine Grove’s patient and family centered services.”

Pine Grove Recognizes May 2015’s National Mental Health Awareness Month

May 11, 2015

Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services, one of the nation’s most comprehensive treatment campuses is recognizing May’s National Mental Health Awareness month.

This year, Mental Health America is stressing the importance of early detection and intervention. The theme for 2015 is B4Stage4, meaning to spread awareness about the importance of taking action prior to a condition reaching stage four.

Pine Grove is embracing this theme by educating professionals about current addiction news. One particular mental health issue that is receiving both local and national attention is the growing use of the synthetic cannabinoid drug named Spice. On Wednesday, May 20th from 11:30-1:00 PM at Southern Oaks in Hattiesburg, two of Pine Grove’s noted experts, Issac Boose, Director of Pine Grove’s Next Step treatment program for men, and Vanessa Cox, Clinical Director of Next Step are co-presenting “Bath Salts, Molly and Spice: The Danger of Synthetic Drug Use.” Cox said this is a critically important subject because, “Synthetic drugs are invading our cities and communities in epidemic proportions as evidenced by more than 430 patients treated in emergency rooms across Mississippi in the last month.”

This is a presentation specifically for social workers, psychologists, professional counselors, mental health therapists, and students in these fields who are seeking to expand their education when it comes to identifying these harmful drugs. Issac Boose explained this presentation is particularly relevant for those working in the mental health care field today. He said, “In order to provide basic care and assistance to their patients, professionals are suddenly being pressed to learn as much as they can about synthetic drugs as quickly as possible.” Pine Grove offers many professional, continuing education events throughout the year both locally and nationally because sharing the organization’s expertise, as one of the country’s foremost behavioral health care facilities, is important to advancing the addiction treatment field.

This membership is also extended to the families of Pine Grove’s graduate patients. Recovery Month is currently marking its 25th year and promotes the benefits of prevention, treatment and recovery. Brown said Pine Grove’s Alumni, “Prove time and again that recovery works, treatment works and a life of permanent, contented recovery is a reality.”

Pine Grove’s Alumni Program hosts a variety of activities, including Days of Hope. That event provides patients and their families with an opportunity to return to Pine Grove’s campus several times a year to reconnect with their treatment team, peers, and receive continued recovery support at no additional cost. Debbie Sanford, Forrest General Hospital’s Chief Behavioral Health Officer, said, “Our patients are at the forefront of everything we do at Pine Grove. Pine Grove Introduces a New Addiction Recovery Program: Next Step Sober Living

May 12, 2014

Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services is proud to announce the inclusion of Next Step Sober Living to its comprehensive selection of world class patient care programs. Next Step Sober Living is designed for male patients, ages 18 and up, who have successfully completed a residential addiction treatment program and need a supportive transitional environment. It is a complement to Pine Grove’s Next Step healing program for men who are battling substance abuse issues.

The program is led by a veteran team of Pine Grove professionals including Next Step Sober Living’s Director, Issac Boose. He said, “Our intention is to help our patients further develop the tools they will need to live a sober lifestyle by providing them with a safe environment to practice recovery behaviors in a community of like-minded peers.”

Next Step Sober Living helps patients acclimate to a productive routine by attending school, working, or volunteering, while living at one of Pine Grove’s fully equipped cottages located on the facility’s main Hattiesburg campus. Patients participate in weekly group therapy sessions, meet individually with John Herrington, one of Pine Grove’s experienced and licensed therapists and attend regular Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Herrington compared the process of ongoing addiction recovery to a hiking challenge. He explained, “The therapeutic support that is offered through the Next Step Sober Living program serves as a guide, a map so to speak. We can’t hike it for them, but we can offer support and guidance along the way.”

Patients participating in Next Step Sober Living enjoy the benefits of the program for a minimum of three months and extended support is available. “Our program promotes individual responsibility in a therapeutic living environment that values honesty and accountability,” explained Vanessa Cox, Clinical Director of Next Step Sober Living. The program offers recovering addicts a cost effective transition to a life free from addiction.

Pine Grove’s Chief Behavioral Health Officer, Debbie Sanford said, “Pine Grove Behavioral Health & Addiction Services is dedicated to providing the highest quality addiction treatment and the addition of Next Step Sober Living to our repertoire, further enhances our dedication to this mission.”
