About this workshop:

This presentation will examine the practice of meditation and mindfulness as well as examine the effects of meditation on physical and mental health. There will also be a focus on how meditative practices can improve performance in the work environment.

About the speaker(s):

Issac L. Boose is a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as well as a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He presently works as the director of Pine Grove Next Step and has been a part of the Next Step team since December 2004. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland European Division and a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Mississippi. He is an active member of the Mississippi Association of Addiction Professional. His experience in the counseling profession includes working with school-aged children as a school based counselor, counseling senior citizens in a hospital setting, community mental health counseling and residential alcohol and drug counseling. While working within these settings he has provided couples, family, group and individual therapy.

Objectives:

  1. Attendee will be able to describe the practice of meditation and mindfulness.
  2. Attendee will be able to describe the psychological and physiological benefits of meditation.
  3. Attendee will be able identify mindfulness practices that can promote stress reduction in the workplace.

Target Audience:

Professional clinicians in the mental health and addiction fields who are counselors, social workers, psychiatrist, psychologist, and therapists and who work with couples.

Continuing Education:

Psychology: 1 CE Hour: Pine Grove is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Pine Grove maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

NBCC: 1 CE Hour: Pine Grove has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6392. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified, Pine Grove is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
